Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond organiseert in samenwerking met de kunstopleidingen Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam en hogeschool Sint-Lukas Brussel een tentoonstelling parallel lopend aan de eindexamententoonstellingen. Hierbij is de opzet even eenvoudig als intrigerend. De afstudeerprojecten blijven op de academies. In de Brakke Grond reflecteren de kunstenaars met behulp van woord, beeld en geluid op hun achtergelaten geesteskinderen. Wat zal er van ze overblijven?

De hedendaagse kunstenaar werkt als een dj. Dat is de tendens. Hij manoeuvreert zich stelend, sampelend, documenterend en kopiërend door bestaand beeld. Knippen en plakken is de nieuwe oorspronkelijkheid. Maar stel dat je als kunstenaar gevraagd wordt je eigen werk op deze wijze te benaderen? Is herinterpretatie dan nog mogelijk? Waar ligt de grens tussen een kopie en het ontstaan van nieuw werk?

Des te mooier dat Cécile Tafanelli, student aan de Rietveld Academie, haar afstudeerproject weer aan deze tentoonstelling heeft gewijd. Ook zij maakt een herinterpretatie, maar dan van ‘‘Kopie’’ - Documented Now! in de vorm van een catalogus.

Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond, in collaboration with the art training institutes Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam and the Hogeschool Sint-Lukas Brussels, is organising an exhibition that runs parallel with the graduation exhibitions. The set-up is as simple as it is intriguing. Graduation projects stay at the academies. In de Brakke Grond the artists reflect through words, images and sounds on the brainchildren they left behind. What remains of them?

A present-day artist works like a DJ. That is the tendency. They manoeuvre through existing images while stealing, sampling, documenting and copying. Cutting and pasting is the new originality. But imagine that you are an artist and you are asked to approach your own work that way. Is re-interpretation then possible? Where runs the dividing line between a copy and the genesis of a new work?

Even more special is the fact that Cécile Tafanelli, a student at the Rietveld Academie, in turn devoted her graduation project to this exhibition. She, too, made a re-interpretation but this time of ‘‘Kopie’’ - Documented Now! in the form of a catalogue.
