Ivo Dimchev maakt rauwe, fysieke voorstellingen in een mix van performancekunst, dans, theater en muziek. Zijn fantasie is onnavolgbaar, zijn falsetstem markant, zijn lichaam een kameleon. X-On vertrekt van Dimchevs fascinatie voor de kunstwerken van de Oostenrijkse beeldend kunstenaar Franz West, die onlangs op de Biënnale van Venetië een Gouden Leeuw voor zijn oeuvre kreeg. Samen met drie copycats gaat Dimchev op zoek naar de betekenis van Wests sculpturen. Een provocerende en humoristische voorstelling over de betekenis van origineel en kopie, van rituelen en identiteit.

Ivo Dimchev’s raw and physical productions are a mix of performance art, dance, theatre and music. His fantasy is unparalleled, his falsetto voice distinctive and his body a chameleon. The starting point for X-On is Dimchev’s fascination for the work of the Austrian visual artist Franz West, who recently won a Golden Lion for his oeuvre at the Venice Biennale. With three copycats, Dimchev will explore the significance of West’s sculptures in a provocative and humorous production about the meaning of ritual and identity, the original and the copy.

Biography
The Bulgarian performance artist Ivo Dimchev (1976) has received diverse international prizes for his work. He followed the masters degree course at Dasarts in Amsterdam and now works from his studio in Brussels, Volksroom. Two years ago, he surprised audiences at Something Raw with Some Faves and last year We.art.dog.come. was co-produced with Frascati. The Austrian Franz West (1947) made his first ‘adaptives’ in the Sixties: portable sculptures made from gauze and plaster whose meaning only becomes apparent when the spectator picks them up and walks round with them, engaging in a physical relationship with them.
