Groupies is een choreografie ter ere van het biddende lichaam. Uit verschillende religieuze bewegingen creëert White Horse één lang ritueel waarin de volharding van de zeven performers tot extase dwingt. Inspiratiebronnen zijn o.m. het katholieke Rozenkransgebed, de Balinese Kecakdans, het joodse gebed bij de Klaagmuur en de Siberische Sjamaandans. In hun streven naar een gemeenschappelijke ervaring krijgen de individuele trekjes van de dansers echter al snel de bovenhand. Deze wrijving en de pulserende voortgang maken de voorstelling buitengewoon spannend.

Groupies is a choreographic work in honour of the body that prays. Out of various religions, White Horse has created one long ritual in which the perseverance of the seven performers brings them to ecstasy. Sources of inspiration have been the catholic Rosary, the Balinese kecak (dance), Jewish prayer at the Wailing Wall and the Siberian shaman dance. However, in striving for a common experience, the dancers’ individuality soon gets the upper hand. The friction and the pulsating progression make the production exceptionally exciting.
Biography
White Horse was established in 2007 by the Germans Lea Martini and Julia Jadkowski and the Swiss Chris Leuenberger. All three studied at the School voor Nieuwe Dansontwikkeling. The collective is now based in Switzerland. Their work is physical and, at the same time, extremely intimate and personal. Trip en Masse, the adaptation for Dansgroep Amsterdam of the Frascati production, Trip, won the Swan in 2011 for the 'most impressive dance production’. Groupies is a co-production with Hebbel am Ulfer (Berlin) for seven performers.
