Tom Rummens, programmeur van Sonic Connections vertelt ons waarom hij de bands van dag 1 gekozen heeft en wat hij er zo goed aan vindt.

Na de bands is het tijd om te dansen op de plaatjes van DJ Entwistle.

Elke De Mey oftewel Love Like Birds heeft het liefst dat je haar muziek beluistert met de ogen gesloten, zodat het lijkt of ze vlak naast je zit. En dat is precies wat ze op Sonic Connections gaat doen. Minimalistische en breekbare liedjes, balancerend op de zompige maar warme grens tussen fluisterfolk en slaapkamerpop.
Elke De Mey is gezegend met een warme, dromerige stem – half Astrud Gilberto, half Cat Power- die haar muziek vanzelf al een intimistisch karakter geeft. – Goddeau 30/09/2011
Ruben Block van Triggerfinger is hun grootste fan en we kunnen hem geen ongelijk geven. Little Trouble Kids is een übercool duo dat stampt, klauwt en rockt als geen ander. En het goede nieuws is: tijdens Sonic Connections stellen ze hun nieuwe album Adventureland aan Nederland voor.
Dat de Groningers van The Black Atlantic de allermooiste indiefolk van Nederland maken, wist je al langer. Dat ze die prachtmuziek live tot haast onwezenlijke hoogtes weten te tillen, komen ze in de Brakke Grond bewijzen. “Dit is een van de beste bands die ons land rijk is”, schreef 3voor12 nog maar pas geleden.
Je hoeft niet helemaal uit Ijsland komen om zachte, mysterieuze, orkestrale droompop te kunnen maken – dit bewijst The Black Atlantic. – OOR Magazine

Mauro Pawlowski behoeft geen introductie meer. Met het asociale feestorkest Gruppo di Pawlowski brengt hij de onbekendste nummers uit zijn onoverzichtelijke oeuvre. Bereid je voor op een duivels rockfeest, gebracht door Mauro zelf en een onwaarschijnlijke groep Belgische topmuzikanten.
Je kunt veel zeggen over zijn muziek en zangkunst, maar sfeer maken is aan hem goed besteed. Behalve muzikaal is Pawlowski sociaal met het publiek. – Zwartgoud.nl 15/04/11

Elke De Mey – also known as Love Like Birds – likes you to listen to her music with your eyes closed, giving the impression you are sitting right next to her. Which is exactly what she will be doing at Sonic Connections. Vulnerable, minimal songs, balancing at the warm, marshy segue between whispered folk and bedroom pop.

Of course, you already knew that The Black Atlantic from Groningen make the most beautiful indie folk in the Netherlands. Mauro Pawlowski needs no introduction. Together with the ‘antisocial party orchestra’ Gruppo di Pawlowski, he presents the least-known numbers from his chaotic oeuvre. Expect a fiendish feast of rock, played by Mauro himself and a unlikely collection of top Belgian musicians.
