Conference, film and art programme

After 2 year Sonic Acts is back in the Brakke Grond with a conference, a film programme and a three-week exhibition. the gooey mesh of global capitalism and the issues we are forced to confront on a daily basis are key subjects within both events.

Conference and film programme

Under the heading HEREAFTER, Sonic Acts Festival 2019 aims to explore the genesis of our current crisis – and what happens hereafter – by reflecting on the issues we are forced to confront on a daily basis: the inequalities caused by colonisation and geostrategic manoeuvring, the challenges posed by the climate crisis and immigration, the ever-present exploitation and precarity of the work force, and the way technological advancements disrupt and not emancipate – that is, the gooey mesh of global capitalism.

In collaboration with Sonic Acts, the HEREAFTER exhibition opens on 16 February. The presentation is a second part after a stay in Arti et Amicitae and before the last part in Stedelijk Amsterdam. Up to and including 3 March, we will be presenting continuous work by Lukas Marxt, Alexis Destoop, Ana Vaz, Ulrike Ottinger and Christina Kubisch. During a special opening event we show a film in the dark (Nuno da Luz, Olivier Marboeuf, Ana Vaz), we organize an electrical soundwalk with Christina Kubisch and a panel with artists who are part of the exhibition.
