A celebration of stories

Oorzaken Festival presents an ode to audio stories and stimulates adventurous listeners with fascinating, beautiful, moving tales from around the world. We seek out the boundaries of creating radio and provide a stage to today’s most innovative makers. The festival theme is 'eavesdropping'.

There is a global surge of podcasts and indie radio. The best stories and many new works will be played during a jam-packed festival programme at de Brakke Grond. These can be listened collectively in the theatre, but also cruising down the canals or whilst walking through the city. With masterclasses by luminaries including Benjamen Walker, Willem de Ridder and Eleanor McDowall, a Listen in the Dark [Luister in het Duister] with Paulien Cornelisse’s selection, a Sleep Tight Night [Slaap Zacht Nacht] with Kaitlin Prest, a Podcast Party and the Short Wave [Korte Golf] contest.

The programme was compiled by radio makers Tjitske Mussche, Maartje Duin, Katharina Smets and programmer Veerle Devreese.

Oorzaken Festival is a Grenzeloos Geluid, In The Dark Belgium and Flemish Arts Centre De Brakke Grond initiative. Its partners are the Flemish-Dutch House deBuren, Volkskrant, VPRO, Woord.nl, Radio 1 (Belgium), Bits of Freedom, the Initiative Narrative Journalism Netherlands, the Dutch Foundation for Literature and Rederij Kooij. The festival is supported by the Creative Industries Fund NL and the Dutch Cultural Media Fund.
