Radouan Mriziga / fABULEUS / hetpaleis / Moussem
For this contemporary dance production, choreographer Radouan Mriziga was inspired by an old passion: rap music. Together with seven young dancers, he dives into everything that makes rap unique: the rhythm, the flow, the statements and gestures, as well as its history, from the grandmasters through to Kendrick Lamar.
In 8.2, Radouan Mriziga attempts to capture the essence of a style of music that transcends trends and passes through the generations, constantly reinventing itself.
Radouan Mriziga studied dance in Tunisia and then at P.A.R.T.S in Brussels. His work is supported by Moussem Nomadisch Kunstencentrum and Kaaitheater, where he is artist-in-residence.
"The seven dancers look stunning in all their dedication, diversity and colourful outfits. Together with choreographer Radouan Mriziga, they have brewed up a fascinating medley crammed with rap flows and moves. Often without music, while stepping they create complex rhythms and quote rhymes. This ‘bare’ approach exposes the components of the genre and at the same time stresses this unique vocabulary of movement.” (****, De Standaard)
